Resisting the Spanish Inquisition

I watched most of Spain v. Cape Verde this morning, which featured the African World Cup debutants battle hard to earn a 0-0 draw against the European champions. Spain looked short of ideas, especially in the second half. Even Lamine Yamal coming on as a late sub couldn't conjure a goal for the Spaniards.

Cape Verde, on the other hand, played tight and narrow, not allowing Spain any space to get good looks at goal. Vozinha, the 40-year-old Cape Verde keeper, pulled off a couple of stunning saves in the first half to keep his side in the match. He earned man of the match for his performance.

If Cape Verde can replicate that kind of performance against Saudi Arabia and Uruguay, there's no reason they can't progress to the knockout round.

Opta Analyst has a great breakdown of the match.
